Mr. & Mrs. Gillelan
It was a whirlwind engagement, but with the help of loving family and friends, John and Brooke pulled off a beautiful rustic wedding and celebration. I’m excited to show you so many of the lovely, thoughtful details that made this day even more special for Mr. & Mrs. Gillelan and their guests!
Brooke’s talented maid-of-honour pampered her and did her makeup. Her hair turned out beautifully as well!! A masterpiece by Candice (WHAM).
John didn’t require any pampering, but he did have a very special suit. It originally belonged to his late Opa and was worn to John’s parents’ wedding! John had it tailored to fit and wore it as a very touching tribute. Not only that, he wore his late Uncle Peter’s cowboy boots. I love that he was able create his wedding ensemble acknowledging his heritage!
Brooke’s elegant jewellery, as well as the bridesmaid’s, were handmade by Sarah Walsh Bridal. Her gorgeous head piece was by Handmade Bride..
Stationery was designed (and hand-painted) by yours truly. More on that later!
I just love this look. The ceremony is moving along, but his eyes are fixed on his bride…captivated. Awwww!!
These lovely jams in a wide variety of flavors were made and packaged by the mother of the groom, Christine. (She added so many gorgeous finishing touches to the day!) I even got to snag one and can’t wait to taste it. That luscious cake was just the right balance of sweetness and fit the theme perfectly. Made by Cake Queens.
The rain let up and guests enjoyed a variety of lawn games in the beautiful setting that is Windecker Woods (Cayuga, Ontario).
The evening ended with a cozy bonfire and s’mores and many happy faces! Congratulations, John and Brooke! May you be richly blessed as you settle into your new home and married life. I hope we’ll see you back in Ottawa soon (and often!)

Beautiful pictures! You did a really fabulous job! Some great memories made that day and 2 families getting to know each other better and having all the friends around to enrich that experience. Awesome day and you have captured it perfectly! BTW John’s boots belonged to his uncle Peter who died in his very early 20’s many, many years ago. It touched our hearts to know this….Maureen

Thanks Maureen! Yes, great memories. As I mentioned to Robert just now, I edited the blog after it was first published to add the information about the boots. Thanks for passing along the back story!

John’s Wedding boots have a special family connection too. They were the favorite boots of his late Uncle Peter Gillelan. Peter bought those Boulet boots with the money from his first professional contract. It’s heartwarming to see that John honored him by wearing them.
BTW The pictures are beautiful Laura Pol, you really captured the beauty of the day.

Thank you, Robert! I changed the part about the boots to add some of that information. Definitely heartwarming.
